My Name is Jim Mattson and I am a Fine Artist / Faux Finisher / Father / Grand Father and One who Loves Family / Friends and Life ... from Orange County Ca.
So where do I begin ..... Well
Been around the Art World for several years working on Projects such as Murals / Fine Art / Signs / Graphics / Sculpture / Trucks / Bikes and other Vehicles including Boats and Planes with weird jobs painting Musical instruments to Manikins ..... A Very interesting life of creativity using spray guns / air brushes / sponges etc. and paint or with vinyl graphics. I Love it all and have tried almost every medium at some point along the way. Then there is Digital Art and Animation .... which naturally took me into the world of Composing Music .......... ART to me is LOVE ....
I Love waking up to another day just to do one more interesting project. The Key is PASSION and I have it for ART. A Beautiful Gift and I am so Very Thankful .....
Currently I have been doing a lot of Re-finishing / Staining and Faux Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets, Furniture and Accessories / Chandeliers, Lamps, Statuary Etc. I specialize in Faux Wood Grain Finishes including Burl Wood and other Exotic woods and also Stone finishes such as Marble, Granite, Travertine Etc. Many times I have been asked to Match an existing real Stone or Wood finish to complete a focal point or setting in a Home, Office, Restaurant Etc. After successfully achieving this request time after time I was hearing more and more of my clients telling me I was like a Dr. with Paint .... Hmmmm Well .... you guessed it ..... Dr. FAUX was Born :-)

I have a PASSION for what I do and enjoy challenges that sometimes come up in my line of work. I will never say no to a request .... even if I have not done a specific project before. I will do the research first and then practice till I know how to do it and then get the sample approved before doing the job. There have been times though where I just had to jump in and create ..... such as when I was in my 20's I was asked to build a Star Ship for Jefferson Starship .... Huh ?
Well I did and it was 22 feet wide and displayed at the Milw. County Stadium in 1977 ..... then went on to 3 more Shows that same year. Also more recent was a couple years back when I built an 8 ft tall Robotic Metal looking Spine for a Local Chiropracter here in town..... All the vertebrae were individually designed and cut using a hot wire, then put together to create the 40 degree curve he requested. I must admit this was not an easy task but as always I Love Challenge and will push forward to complete a project no matter how difficult it seems.

Which individual or group inspires you the most?: Anyone who is creative will inspire me if they truly have a Passion for what they do and do it well.
From where do you draw your inspiration?: Most often when I am day dreaming .... or see an Awesome Movie like AVATAR

Events also inspire me and some in different ways.

So depending on what is in the moment I may jump from painting to music or from making a movie to creating digital art.

You're a man of many talents Jim! You do awesome work with everything you do. I would love to see a photo of that starship you built, for Jefferson Starship and the robotic spine. It seems like you would have some great stories to tell. Can't wait to see more of your work.
